The Belly of the Beast: “Big Blue” Trailer

With a load capacity of 30 tons, our “Big Blue” custom four-wheel steer trailer lugs Dow Chemical’s heaviest molds. But it’s more than an intimidating name and impressive strength. Custom-engineered running gear helps this giant easily navigate crowded factory floors.

Here’s how it works:

It Starts with Ultra-Durable Wheels

Big Blue rolls on eight dual-mounted press-on polyurethane wheels. Tapered roller bearings with floating spacer arrangement ensure proper preload on the bearing so it can handle years of abuse. A restrained axle and rugged fifth wheel add to its durability.

Linkage System: Perfectly Synchronized

When the front running gear turns left, the back wheels turn right, so it can make tight turns. To prevent any unnecessary stress on the trailer’s vitals, we built hard stops that allow it to turn at a predetermined amount.

A custom drag link made of heavy structural steel tubing minimizes the stress of hauling 30 tons. Plus, a drag link guard protects it from accidental forklift or crane damage.

Ready for Tow in Any Direction

With a loop-type towing tongue at each end of the trailer, the operators can pull it in any direction. A lock keeps either tongue upright when not in use. And with heavy-duty drawbar loop made of forged alloy steel, there’s no risk of the rig breaking away.
